Russell
David - Songs, vocals, guitar #2
Russell
is a songwriter, painter, and (bad) poet. Ever since he learned his first
guitar chords (Em and C), he's been writing songs and using music as a
sort of emotional release valve.
In that time, he's written hundreds of songs, and released 10 albums as
a solo artist (see catalog).
What
makes Russell happy?
"Talking
to people about feelings, and drinking tea"
Favorite
Russell tea?
"That's a hard one, probably Darjeeling, though Earl Grey can be wonderful
too."
What
makes music good, according to Russell?
"Anything personal and honest. And sadness helps. (see: Mark Eitzel, Elliot
Smith, Joseph Arthur)."
Besides
his current association with Mission of Ed, Russell has played in several
other bands over the years, including: Armerdings & Russell, The Follow
(drums), The Nick G. Hard Drive, and Bob Kidnapped.
Russell's parents say he has absolutely no musical talent.
This is probably true.

What
does Russell think of Mission of Ed?
ROLF
"Rolf is an amazing guitarist and keyboardist and vocalist! An absolute
natural. He has ears that intuitively hear in musical terms. You simply
can't learn that. I'm in awe. From the first time I met him, until now.
He also has given me many free beers, so I owe him big!"
AURELIUS
"Aurelius brings amazing passion and strength to Ed. He's thoughtful and
sensitive, and at the same time, precise and demanding. Musically, it's
a cool mix, and provides the bedrock for the songs. Aurelius has also
given me free beers, and I owe him big too."
LOUIS
"Louis knows music for reals. He knows the math, the how and why. Since
I don’t, it's wonderful to have someone around who can translate my chords
and thoughts into notation. And far beyond that, is the feeling that Louis
brings to the songs, through the bass. It’s a sort of feeling-with-the
song. And it’s the best thing.”
RUSSELL
"How'd I ever get hooked up with real musicians?!?!?! Oh, and I promise
to bring beers to the next practice!"
