Sketches for proposed paintings...

Sometimes, before trying to paint on a real canvas, I make little pencil sketches of my ideas. Sometimes the sketches come out better than the finished product. Here are a few examples:

"Boy and Girl with halos and hearts"
This idea never made it to canvas.
I may still try it someday.

Colored pencil on binder paper (2000).

"Man"
This now exists on a large canvas, and is actually one of those rare instances where the painting achieves the original vision.

Trilogy - Part One
This is the first part of an ill-fated (and never completed) trilogy. I intended to have three canvases based on similar themes. This one was translated on canvas, with disappointing results.

Trilogy - Part Two
The second part of the trilogy. This one also exists on canvas, but miserably failed to meet my vision. I abandoned the project after completing the second canvas.

Trilogy - Part Three
This was the proposed final segment of the trilogy. The painting was was never attemted.

"Angel with Halo and Black Sky"
This sketch evolved into a real painting. The results look very much like this.

Colored pencil on binder paper (1997).

"Guy Stabbing Another Guy"

I painted this on a real canvas, with disappointing results. I will paint over it someday soon.

Colored pencil on binder paper (1999).

"Boy and Girl Kissing and Having Sex"

I painted a full-size color version of this on watercolor paper. It came out very nice.

"Guy in Costume"
I never painted this because it seemed like a stupid idea after I did the sketch.
